About WildernessFit
I’m Yaz! Raised in the Braes of Glenlivet in the Cairngorm National Park, the outdoors has always been an integral part of my life. Living simply and having total freedom in the hills as a child, naturally fed into my career as a Ski instructor and back-country guide.
I created WildernessFit Retreats in 2020, to offer a unique wellbeing experience - an inclusive, empowering environment for women to build confidence, move, learn, and become part of something really special. I started these retreats as way to introduce others to the benefits of outdoor immersion, and the benefit this has on our mental wellbeing, and am thrilled to have most recently developed the WildernessFit Social Enterprise - A series of mixed gender retreats that focus on mental health, and are, most importantly, accessible to absolutely everyone. Read more about the Social Enterprise here.
As well as running my retreats, I am also part of our family business, with my brother Zeki, who runs his own venture, Highland Survival Skills, and mum Ghillie Başan, who creates cookery workshops, whisky and food pairings and hosts large whisky events from our Glenlivet croft. We regularly collaborate to create unique experiences for guests. It’s extremely special to be able to work and live together.
Glenlivet Winter Mental Wellbeing Retreat 2025
"Time stood still for me this weekend. I was a bit apprehensive coming to a retreat on my own but I did not need to worry as Yaz and her team gave us such a warm welcome. The calming atmosphere was inspiring meeting so many strong women was definitely highlight for me." - Corinne Thomas
Wild dining
At WildernessFit, we advocate for and champion the benefits of immersing ourselves in nature to foster positive mental health, build resilience and improve our wellbeing. Woodland dining is just one of the activities we enjoy at our Highland retreats, enjoying a feast in the forest allows you to really slow down and appreciate the food in front of you and where it's come from.

Ain't no mountain high enough!
Nothing beats the fresh mountain air of Scotland and a guided walk up the mighty Beinn Aligin is just the tonic to replenish and restore mind and body.
Leave the gym behind this weekend
Our outdoor movement and workout activities are created around the landscape of the retreat location, and are tailored to the each group by Yaz, a fully qualified PT and Mountain Leader.
"Yaz's compassionate guidance and the supportive community she fosters made all the difference in my healing journey. I left the retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and hope for the future" - Ben

Mental Health Social Enterprise Events
In partnership with WildernessFit Retreats
WildernessFit Mental Health CIC is a social enterprise borne from my personal commitment to making transformative retreat experiences accessible to all. With these mixed-gender festivals, we break down financial barriers and create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters healing, connection, and growth.
Our mixed-gender Mental Health Festivals bring together a growing community ready to transform their struggles into newfound strengths.
These festivals provide the opportunity for participants to reconnect with nature, share stories, and discover powerful tools for resilience, all while feeling inspired and supported by others. My mission is to cultivate an inclusive, supportive environment where people can address their mental health challenges and thrive in the process - no one should have to face their struggles alone.
Time stood still for me this weekend. I was a bit apprehensive coming to a retreat on my own but I did not need to worry as Yaz and her team gave us such a warm welcome.
The calming atmosphere was inspiring meeting so many strong women and learning from their disciplines (yoga, fermentation, strength training, pilates) and was definite highlight for me.

Meeting so many strong women was a definite highlight for meYazzie has the most unflinchingly positive attitude of anyone I know. Time with her leaves you feeling inspired to give anything a go.
She makes you feel good about yourself and seems to genuinely care about helping you achieve your goals.
I’m going to treat myself to a Wilderness Fit every year!”

Yazzie has the most unflinchingly positive attitude of anyone I know“Yaz’s outdoor fitness sessions are way better than a gym, great fun and easily replicable on your own turf. The yoga was like no other yoga class I’ve attended, this was deep work for body and mind. And the professional massage and fermenting workshops were cherries on the cake! To do all this in the spectacular setting of Torridon, with outdoor swimming, hot tubs and live music was a balm for the soul.
Rebecca O’Hara
Deep work for body and mindA fabulous weekend in Torridon, with the greatest team. Joyful and so inclusive (age and ability). This is my third Wilderness Fit and am so looking forward to the next one (where are we going Yaz?). Outdoor exercise, lifting rocks, mountain climbers upside down on a tree, pull ups – all the regular gym stuff but in the fresh air, using nature.
Chances for sea loch dips, a beautiful massage and some interesting encounters – foraging mushrooms, fermenting sauerkraut, fiddle music evening and a mighty long walk up Beinn Aligin in the blazing sunshine. What could be better?
Fiona Lewis
Sea loch dips and mighty long walk up Beinn AliginThank you to Yaz – the most welcoming host – wicked fitness instructor, spectacular host and all-around lovely soul. Hannah – looking forward to my lovingly massaged sauerkraut in a couple of weeks, and wow- the fermented feast! Sarah for the most relaxing yoga I have ever done. LuLu for an epic massage and Eve for kicking it all off with pilates. And to the other guests I met – what a lovely bunch and lots of laughs!
If you have the opportunity to go on one of WildernessFit’s retreats – go for it!
Moira Greene
If you have the opportunity to go on one of WildernessFit’s retreats – go for it!“What can I say? I have no words to describe how wonderful weekend you organised. You and the team went the extra mile to makes us all feel welcome and part of the community. I do usually struggle a bit in social settings but I felt at ease. It was the perfect “me time escape” I could wish for. I came back home refreshed, energised and with a happiness I have not had for a long time (3 years to be precise). This retreat in nature and surrounded by genuine people had a magical effect on me”.
Iranzu Galdeano
It’s easy to slip back into the day to day chaos of life and juggling competing demands, but since the retreat I feel that I’ve been better and stepping back when things get too busy and giving myself time and permission to do the things that restore a sense of peace and wellness. Thank you Yaz and co, you are all very special people and so appreciated.”
Rebecca O’Hara

The ultimate yin and yangYaz creates a nourishing environment in her own family home and with her talented cookery skills.
Her food is incredibly tasty and nutritious. I feel more toned and less bloated than when I arrived which is an unexpected bonus!

A fully immersive experience that does wonderful things for your soul“Wow, what an amazing experience! Yaz and her team have created something truly special and it was a privilege to spend the weekend with wonderful people in a stunning setting, eating wholesome and delicious food and taking part in amazing activities.
I loved that this wasn’t a retreat with a lot of sitting about (though you are absolutely free to do that if that’s what you want to do!) and, after embracing every activity on offer, I felt so energised! “
Rebecca O’Hara
