Introducing Jude and Andy: Isle of Skye Mussels

Jude and Andy both own Isle of Skye mussel farm. We will be staying on their land for the duration of the retreat, so there will be plenty of time to chat to the knowledgeable pair. Andy was a safari guide in Africa for many years and then lead overland expedition's in South America. Jude is a marine biologist with a Masters in Aquaculture and a PHD in fisheries. She has worked as a researcher in Antarctica and South Georgia, in commercial fisheries in the Falklands, in marine diversity in St Helena, in tilapia farming in Kenya and has set up a marine consultancy business.

One of the activities on this retreat includes a sea day with Jude and Andy where we will learn about their mussel farm and have the opportunity to harvest some of their mussels to enjoy on the beach. We will learn about different species on the shoreline and forage some goods to cook up back at camp.

This retreat is a forest camp set-up with access to a hot shower and toilet.

There will be a beautiful Bell- tent set up in the forest, ready for your arrival, with 3 guest Bell Tents decked out that sleep 2 people each.

Wake up to the sound of a flowing river as you smell fresh coffee brewing, which will be brought to your Bell tent as you rise. Enjoy a unique forest dining experience throughout the weekend or beach cook-ups. If the sun doesn’t shine all weekend, we have a natural shelter within our private woodland and a robust dry tent and tarps.

Food and Drink

All food will be provided over the retreat. I will be doing all the catering which will include warming hearty breakfast, packed lunches if we are out or a warm meal if on site and a nutritious dinner. As we are by the sea there will be a big emphasis on seafood and coastal foraging and preservation. All dietary requirements are possible just let me know! Anything that we forage we will eat! I want each retreat to feel totally relaxed so if you enjoy a glass or two of red wine in the evening please feel free to bring some along or a dram as a wee night cap.
